  1. currently SWS only allow registration searches by section for the current quarter. we had to implement this feature in this manner due to performance issues however we can work in fixing this problem if there is enough demand on campus for this

  2. Give students a tool to automate class and assignment schedules across a standard api... e.g. Google Calendar APIs and Tools. This will save student time and ensure accurate communication of changes

  3. Some clients (groups service, canvas, for example) need to see hidden courses in both curriculum and section searches. Suggest you add a parameter on the query string to activate an 'include ts_omit sections' query.

  4. The Course Evaluations are currently available here: https://www.washington.edu/cec/
Could we add these to the SWS?

  6. It would be useful to have an API which exposes the required / optional material lists for courses. The basics would be books titles, isbn, and if they are required or not. Currently this information is not available at all through the UW, and must be retrieved from the U Bookstore (which is an independent entity).

  7. It now contains the catalog course description (good!). But adding these:
    http://www.washington.edu/students/icd/
would allow devs to use all available course data. The new course catalog search using SWS can't fully replace the old Google-based search until it has access to ICDs.

  8. As a admin assistant for faculty, I constantly have to go to the SDB to look up add codes, then send them to faculty. The printed ones get lost by faculty. It would be great if the faculty had access to add codes on the teaching section on MyUW.

  9. ASTRA would like to get all of it's student application related Span of Control values out of SWS so that the DTS job that pulls span of control values from SDB can be retired. The only SOC type that is being retrieved from SDB that is not available in SWS is "Major".

  10. We are in the process of developing an online form for services requested from Disability Resources for Students. Most requests require that students provide us with their entire class schedule, so it would be great if that information was already populated for them based on thier NetID.

  11. There are a number of attributes -- particularly for student resources -- that depend on business logic that isn't well-defined across campus. The most famous example of this is GPA, which must be calculated based on a number of different fields, taking into account a number of caveats about different types of courses, etc. To make matters worse, the business logic that defines this calculation is not well-documented (as far as I know) and results in potentially different results in different applications that may or may not properly calculate the GPA using the same rules of the registrar's office. Whenever…

  12. Now that ICD's are being retired Canvas is the new solution for instructor-entered course descriptions. It would be fantastic to get the custom descriptions along with the rest of the data about the course.

  13. We do a few things based on SLN, and if you query section info too soon the SLN's are 0000.

What I'm doing now is making sure I don't query courses based on the relevant terms "registrationservicesstart" via the Term resource, which is more than a month after SNL availability noted here http://depts.washington.edu/registra/staffFaculty/calendars/tscal1011.php. This solution is a little hacky and I would love something more integrated.

We will talk to the data owners to figure out if/when this info is available.

  14. Occasionally student records are assigned new RegIDs. The system is aware of these records because when you search the old RegID in the SWS person resource a link to the person record using the new RegID is provided.

    Suggest either

    1. Have resources like registration, enrollment support the old RegID.

    2. Have the empty response representation include the fact that the queried RegID has a replacement value.

  15. The Groups Web Service provisioner could source its data from SWS if:
o The section search resource accepted a timestamp, and returned only those sections which had been modified since that timestamp
o The section resource returned a system timestamp
o The registration resource optionally returned StudentNbr or UWNetId instead of RegId

  16. Any time a student applies for a scholarship or fellowship, their financial need must be determined. I'd like to see column uwneed in table sfevaluation, database UWSDB, exposed to web services.

  17. Currently the registration page sorts course offerings by department. Sometimes people are looking for a course to fill a particular time slot. If you had some way to display this information, either as lists or by searching, it would help people find courses that worked with their existing schedules.

  18. We could use a service that would allow us to query by student and get a list of the degrees that student has earned from the UW. The representation would include Major, Program, and Degree and a date (possibly just year and quarter).

  20. The enrollment search appears to be NOT returning links for the future quarters in which a student is enrolled. Is that by design?
